Perlaza promoted to South Bend. Goes 2 for 3 with a BB and a K in his debut.

Christopher Morel hasn't played in 3 straight games, despite finishing the last game he played in.

That’s preferable to a trade, I suppose,

Really, really happy to see Perlaza AND Jose Gutierrez out of the SS leagues, especially this latest assignment for Gutierrez. Gutierrez started in LF during MB's second game today, went 1/1 with a sac fly (mentioning it for the fly part).

Perlaza was probably Eugene's most believably consistent hitter from the OD group, is pretty much the last of the 2015 IFA non-catcher bats with prospect hopes to reach full season ball. He does so in his fourth full season of pro ball, which is a whole lot less wince worthy when considering he's been productive switch hitter at the SS levels and was signed at the age of an older US HS sophomore and younger than most college draftees. Things get very fast now, hopefully these guys are ready!

2020 seems lined up to be a defining year for that 2015 IFA haul of the Cubs, at least among those not traded between now and then. We should finally get a really clear view of who, if any, is a guy among the bats rather than an interesting or promising follow. Amaya and Ademan are lined up for a full season of AA at just 21. Gutierrez and hopefully Perlaza could/should open on the High A roster at solid ages (still lined up for AA at 22) for the level. It's this group's most wide open window since entering pro ball, but it can slam shut as quickly as it opened. High A could also go a long way towards gauging SP potential of both Marquez and Carrera, both should be aiming at 120+ high quality innings next year. Unless Marquez is going all Verlander or Gore on High A ball, g'luck with that, I'd rather he spend the whole 2020 at the level getting the most possible innings. Guys like Cruz and Albertos will get another and maybe last shot with some benefit of doubt to establish themselves, probably in SB's rotation ala Cam Sanders or Riley Thompson to make up some of these many lost innings. I'm not not expecting a high quality position player out of this 2015 IFA class(?) right now while so many guys are still in the game, hopefully Theo makes it so. I'm fine with that player coming from trading these guys so there's always that route

-----

Richan brought himself to a solid if unspectacular 82.1 IP / 8 HRs / 76 Ks / 82 Hs / 17 BBs with another strong 7 inning outing. I don't think it is a stretch to imagine him being able to help fill out a trade this deadline, not bad for a pick that didn't go over well on draft day

Ethan Roberts threw his first good outing with MB, took three tries, with 2.1, 3 Ks, 2 Hs...All outings have been of the multi-inning variety, many in SB were, so I think he's being groomed to get SP innings next season in MB. It's hard to imagine him drawing much trade interest this year but he had some projection left when drafted
