I am already working on the stats for the 2020 HR Derby. One thing that immediately stands out to me is a player like Giancarlo Stanton.
He's been out injured most of the year, and to-date only has 2 home runs.
My immediate fear is that he'll be everyone's default first choice for one of their bench players.
However, he will be 30 next year, but who knows if he'll rebound or decline.
What are some opinions out there? Do I need to make a special rule in this type of scenario?

What if bench players had to be pre-arb/arb-eligible only? Would be more faithful to the traditional "wild card," as you'd need to dig deep instead of finding a bounceback guy already on a long-term deal due to their prior dong prowess.

One team control guy, one rookie eligible?
Where do you slot Stanton though?

I say no - you play it where it lays.
Suppose he gets hurt again? That's the fun - the unpredictability.
Don't you look at the last 3 years anyway?

Stanton’s body is breaking down, if someone wants to risk it that’s their problem. I think there’s more risk in picking a guy like him than believed, imo.
