How is $400 a week anywhere near approaching adequate?

If players were paid year round, these would come out to:

Short Season - $21,000 per year
A Ball - $26,000
AA - $31,000
AAA- $36,000

Those are still low, but not egregiously so. But of course the players aren't paid year-round, they're only paid for ~5 months, so it's obviously still not enough.

Imagine getting drafted to the highest level of anything and being told you will start off making the same amount as someone who makes $10/hour.

It''s a start at least. Minor league players do have a lot of regular everyday costs covered a lot of the times (i.e. room and board, meals, transportation, etc.) and I believe they still get a per diem on the road. So even if it's still painfully low, it's at least a world of difference to a whole lot of these players, especially the ones coming from latin countries trying to provide a better life for them and their families. It's still insultingly low, but it's a step in the right direction.

Yes to 'it's a start', no to pretty much the rest of it, especially the next sentence. If you travel for work, the company you work for covers a vast majority of your expenses. You don't get your salary reduced because of it.

That's understandable. What do you think would be a fair scale? My thought is an extra $10K per level, but I'm open to being convinced otherwise.

Most of these guys get at least ~$100K upon signing, so my thought is to set a livable wage as a floor and then let everything else be figured out via those bonuses.

And in order to pay for these pay raises, they will just shutter 20 or so minor league teams

I had an employer tell me they couldn't give me more money because my travel expenses were being covered. I...didn't stay there.

Wow, that likely means he's going to end up missing nearly three seasons in a row.

He had forearm tightness last week so this isn’t the least bit surprising. Yankees injury luck apparently carrying over from last year.
