I'm shocked at how little difference there was between walking around last night when it was just going below 0 and stepping outside today at -23. Feels the same, but I'm sure if I was outside for more than 30 seconds I would have noticed more of a difference.

LIFE LESSON FROM 10 YEARS IN MN: once the temp hits -5, you skin freezes almost instantly and you lose your ability to feel. So, as a result, you won't feel the temperature difference between -10 and -25. however, your core temperature will drop much faster and -25 kills you much faster. So yes, after a few minutes out there you might be able to tell the difference if your brain doesn't freeze and you become lethargic and die.

When I was out there yesterday I was walking to a coffee shop and took a wrong turn down a side street and wound up a block north of it. That extra block of walking I had to do at -5 was rough. I had taken a deep breath and I immediately felt my lungs start to freeze up a little bit, I got short of breath and I freaked out a bit.

Our high school posted the results from the weather station they host for a local TV station. -29.4 air temp and -50.4 wind chill were the 2 low points of the past couple of days. Fugg this nonsense.

Only an 80 degree temp swing in 4-5 days.

You know, just like going from 50 to 130 degrees in mid-July

I once flew from Houston where it was 81 degrees to Denver where it was -5 when I landed. So 86 degrees in two hours.

My kids had half a day of school last week, none this week thus far and have a late start tomorrow if they actually open. Fugg this nonsense indeed.

My daughter had school on Tuesday and will have it today but then we are going on vacation and she will miss the next week and a half of school. She also had a 4 day weekend for MLK day (not sure why) and of course recently had her winter break. I went back and counted and she will have gone to school 15 days in a 55 day period.

She’ll learn more on vacation than she will in school in the same time frame.

A lot of schools plan their institute days around holiday weekends.

Black ice is a bitch this morning. A car coming in the opposite direction on Lake Cook road lost control(going over the speed limit of 50 no doubt) and plowed into the side of a car 50 feet in front of me. Thankfully all parties involved were ok

Last year my buddy who's a teacher, in my city in Wisconsin, I think only had something crazy like 4ish full 5 day weeks of school for the kids from the time they got back from Christmas break until the end of the year in May/June due to scheduled off days, Holidays and weather related cancelations. The teachers obviously had more full weeks because even when the kids were off they had to go in most of the time for in service stuff or whatever but it was crazy how many 3-4 day weeks of official school they had.

I would rather be in Denver than almost any city really.
