It's already justified its existence just from the first comment on the Deadspin article alone:

I remember waiting for my mom at the bottom of a slide at Action Park, and when she hit the pool, her [expletive] flew out. So, my scars were only emotional.

Ben Foster was so amazing. Even Chris Pine didn't suck totally.

I too just got around to watch this one. I'm not as enthusiastic as either of you, but it was pretty enjoyable. I think the role Ben Foster played was probably one of the easier acting jobs out there, just be a complete lunatic with no redeeming qualities. But he did it well.

I'm also not quite sure what the point of the excessive mexican/indian "teasing" Jeff Bridges was doing the whole time. I mean, this movie was a good decade after Gran Torino, no? They couldn't think of a better way to actually show an old man hiding his affection for his partner? I did enjoy the very heavy handed, "those damn banks" sentiment throughout the movie though. It was fun.

Sony, Marvel Make Up: Companies Will Produce Third ‘Spider-Man’ Film
Sony Pictures and Marvel have found a way to get back in the Spider-Man business together.

Sony Pictures Entertainment and The Walt Disney Studios jointly announced that Marvel Studios and its President Kevin Feige will produce the third film in the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” series, starring Tom Holland. The film is scheduled for release on July 16, 2021. As part of the arrangement, Spider-Man will also appear in a future Marvel Studios film. Amy Pascal will also produce through Pascal Pictures, as she has on the first two Holland-led films.

“I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it,” said Feige. “Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.

Awesome news, regardless.

The linked Variety article says Marvel will now get 25% of the movie's profits, up from 5%, so basically it looks like they met in the middle. Very cool news.

Ad Astra was okay, I guess. I wanted to like it more, but lots of flaws in logic and random tonal shifts dragged it down

Looks like we have Tom Holland to thank for Spidey returning to the MCU.

Ok...it's Friday...I'll bite. Why is it unnecessary for a movie studio to try to resurrect one of the most recognizable and lucrative superhero franchises (after a few disastrous entries) during a time when superhero movies dominate the box office?

and much like our lord and savior this resurrection seemingly occurred three days after the last one

This movie is slated for 2021, 9 years after the last standalone Batman. That's bigger than the gap between the last Clooney movie and the first Bale one.

Yeah, but you've also had the two Snyder movies with Batman. For the Batman world, there was a standalone Joker movie, plus two Suicide Squad movies with Batman villains.

It sure doesn't feel like nine years between Batman movies.
