My wife's great uncle Francis Currey passed away yesterday. He was one of 3 living WWII medal of honor recipients. I never met him, but he was badass enough to have a GI Joe figure made after him that he gave to my wife and is now on display in my son's room. His story is incredible.

He was a legend. I knew his story well from Battle of the Bulge history.

There were only 20 Medal of Honor winners from the Battle of the Bulge so OMC knowing this story isn't that weird compared to say knowing every Medal of Honor winner from the Civil War, which he probably also knows.

Now that would be something. The MOH wasn't what it is now during the Civil War. They gave out a couple thousand or something like that. Basically an act that would today get you the Bronze Star was given the MOH. It was essentially the only award for bravery at the time.

Currey was on documentaries a good bit, that's mainly how I'm aware of his story.

Lots of 75th anniversary commemorations going on this week in the area, and reading some great stories in the newspapers.

I had a thesis project that revolved around GPR. I haven't done any work with it since school, but GPR is way cool simply because you get to do archaeology work. I have a friend that got jettisoned from the seismic industry and somehow landed himself a job with a GPR firm, and I'm ultra jealous. Closest one can get to being Indiana Jones for a living.
