  1. I'm sure they're losing $144m a year for tax purposes only.
  2. For all we know, they never had any value.
  3. Well horsefeathers.
  4. I'm surprised the downstate GOP isn't crowing more about killing the PILOT bill as a multi-billion dollar giveaway to DEI woke public housing developers.
  5. Maybe we can get something good for Carson Kelly since he's now established himself as the Cubs' best two-way player?
  6. If the Yankees can put up a 13 run inning, sure, why not the Cubs?
  7. We can argue about intangibles and motivation until the cows come home, but the bottom line is this team currently sucks and it can't continue in its current form.
  8. You don't need redasses, you just need guys who can stay healthy and produce. I don't think Kris Bryant won an MVP because John Lackey was a dick to everyone in the clubhouse, ya know? At this point, though, something needs to happen, be it a crazy trade or a bloodletting, because this team is sleepwalking.
  9. I feel like I'm watching a dude continue to pour gasoline on himself after setting himself on fire.
  10. I mean, what else is there that can be done? The rotation is a jumbled mess of injuries and trash, the offense is inconsistent, and the pen sucks any time the rotation and offense actually do well.
  11. The Royals' trio of Michael Wacha (signed through '27), Kris Bubic (FA after this season), and Seth Lugo (signed through '27) should be available. Sandy Alcantara should also be on the market, although his season has been kinda eh. Freddy Peralta might also be available, but that depends on how delusional the Mets are. In terms of who to give up, I don't think anyone on the Cubs or in their system is strictly off limits, but, putting prospects and young controllable guys into tiers, for Tier 1 I'd hope they do their damndest to hold onto Horton, Shaw, Ballesteros, Hartshorn, and Wing (in that order); for Tier 2 I'd want them to hold out on trading Pedro Ramirez, Jaxson Wiggins, and Jefferson Rojas (in that order) unless it's in a deal for a multi-year guy or Skubal; and for Tier 3, I'd be generally okay with any other prospect getting traded assuming fair value in the deal.
  12. The toxic tort litigation involving this stadium is going to be phenomenal.
  13. Shohei Ohtani would definitely solve this team's offense and pitching issues... But seriously, with Skubal and Detmers already mentioned, SP Casey Mize would be my third. The injury risk is there, but he's a FA after this season and it looked like he turned the corner before going on the IL a week ago. The asking price should also be reasonable compared to some of the other guys on the market.
