Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

This whole TOR thing seems to illuminate a certain tension between upside and risk; Fangraphs noted the potential risk of losing Arrieta or Lester to injury, and the trade rumors we hear seem to involve trading upside to reduce overall risk. In this frame of reference, Spain's idea amounts to tradi...

I'm one of the "old men", so Star Wars was a huge part of my childhood. I can't wait until noon tomorrow. Took the day off.

I was hoping we could sign him as a 4th OF. He has played all 3 OF positions, kills LHP, and could have added power off the bench.

I'm pretty sure most of us are familiar with him.

Did they really want Peraza so much? Why not just take the package the Sox sent to the Dodgers?

Re: Tim went to Nashville

I've been on numerous flights where I thought we were going to go through the runway, but mostly because the pilot slammed on the brakes like he was getting close to the end of the runway. But, not being able to see forward, I am only speculating. It could be that he was purposely trying to make hi...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

What are the more intelligent Cards fans saying about this offseason? Is there a lot of frustration that offensive upgrades are not going to be pursued? Obviously a lot of frustration. I don't actually believe that they're not going to pursue an offensive upgrade though. I can definitely understand...

Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

I feel like the idea that Baez might be awful is just an afterthought, which is weird. He was awful in 2014, and he would have been awful in 2015 if not for a .412 BABIP. Below-replacement awful. It isn't an afterthought at all. You're right that his line was salvaged by the babip. However, there i...

Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

If only the Royals rotation could matchup head to head with the Mets best arms. The Royal pen was better than ours. The Royals also have more team speed and are better defensively. Our bullpen had more total WAR by a slim margin 5.4 vs. 5.3 and we had more players with WARs over 1 than them 3 vs. 1...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

it's 15 minutes after heyward's introduced and waddle & silvy have their first caller to say "we paid $184m for a right fielder that doesn't hit home runs" Get used to it. It will get brought up constantly, and it's maddening. What are the more intelligent Cards fans saying about this...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

Heyward was asked a leading question about how he sounds like he sees himself here for the long haul, not just 3 or 4 years. He answered, paraphrasing, that that's definitely true and the opt outs are just things his agent put in for his protection and to keep his options open. Basically said what ...

Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

Assuming we are near our payroll limit - I'm absolutely for standing pat right now, unless we can get a controllable arm for nothing but prospects. There is enough performance risk with Soler, Russell and Schwarber that I love having the quality depth that Baez provides. We have enough quality and d...

Re: The TOR (Top of Rotation) pitching options

If Baez isn't penciled into the everyday lineup, which unless Heyward stays in Right and Baez shifts to Center will likely be the case, he should be included in any package for pitching help. I've mentioned Baez for Strasburg for months and love the idea now more than ever. Missing out on all their...

Re: Jason Heyward to CUBS!!!

I'm curious to see if Baez will be put in Center Field and Heyward kept in right. Jason Heyward's proven elite corner range should take some of the pressure off Baez's Outfield transition. And from various reports it seems as though Soler has generated more trade interest than Baez. So Soler could ...
