This was a really good year for music and I had a tough time narrowing it down.

10. Sleater-Kinney- No Cities to Love
9. Wolf Alice- My Love is Cool
8. Modest Mouse- Strangers to Ourselves
7. Decemberists- What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World
6. Front Bottoms- Back on Top
5. Chvrches- Every Open Eye
4. Courtney Barnett- Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit
3. Speedy Ortiz- Foil Deer
2. Titus Andronicus- The Most Lamentable Tragedy
1. Father John Misty- I Love You, Honeybear

I'm still going through and relistening to everything on my list from this year, I think it was something like 3-400 albums. Some albums that are on my best of list, with no order:

Surfer Blood - 1000 Palms
Yung - Alter (EP)
American Wrestlers - Self Titled
Best Coast - California Nights
Built to Spill - Untethered Moon
Palma Violets - Danger in the Club
The Vaccines - English Grafitti
Swervedriver - I Wasn't Born to Lose You
Toro Y Moi - What For?
Cloakroom - Further Out
Radical Dads - Universal Coolers
Screaming Females - Rose Mountain
California X - Nights in the Dark
FFS - FFS
Beach Slang - Things We Do...
The Cribs - For All My Sisters
Hop Along - Painted Shut
Dan Deacon - Gliss Riffer
California Wives - Heavy (EP)
Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin - The High Country
Miami Horror - All Possible Futures
Idlewild - Everything Ever Written
No Joy - More Faithful
Desaparecidos - Payola
Bully - Feels Like
Father John Misty - I Love You Honeybear
Albert Hammond Jr - Momentary Masters
Fidlar - Too
Adventures - Supersonic Home
Ratatat - Magnifique
Front Bottoms - Back on Top

Toro Y Moi and Surfer Blood are probably my top two. A bunch more will be added to this list before I decide.

i'm mixed on it; he's kind of over the top with the ironic detachment and millennial contempt, but i like the aesthetic enough that i come back to it occasionally, though i couldn't single out a song from it i overly enjoy

I'm not much for rankings, but it's been a great year for album releases by perhaps my 4 favorite modern day bands, Minus 5, Of Montreal, Belle and Sebastian and The Decemberists (last 2 on the same day was a thing of beauty.)

But my year in music (when I wasn't forced to listen to "Let it Go" until I wanted to lose my mind) was about delving deep into the obscure bowels of Elephant Six and their outliers. If you get an I Tunes card for Christmas The Holidays, and you're looking for something new (that's not new at all,) check out any of The Minders, Marbles, The Late B.P. Helium, The Essex Green, The High Water Marks, The Music Tapes, Nana Grizol, Nesey Gallons, Beulah, Pipes You See Pipes You Don't See, and The Lady Bug Transistor.

I'm not a fan of hipsters, but damned if they don't have some good taste in music.

There's a contingent of people here (myself included) that the idea of them doing something technically so adult and responsible as having kids is something my brain can't even process.

Beulah is an all time favorite. Their album "Yoko" is full of should-have-been indie hits.

Max Richter's "Sleep" is the record of the year for me.

The Beatles are coming to streaming music...

Beginning on Christmas Eve at 12:01 a.m., The Beatles’ catalogue can be heard on a whopping nine streaming services: Apple Music, Deezer, Google Play, Microsoft Groove, Napster/Rhapsody, Amazon Prime Music, Slacker Radio, Spotify, and Tidal.
