Not that this has any to do with anything; I just like Lemmy and Joey being buds:

Disappointed that Ex Machina got mostly ignored by the Academy.

Sad. He was great as Severus Snape, but I'll always remember him first as one of the only bright spots in that awful Robin Hood movie.

He's Hans Gruber, first and foremost for me.

No love for Galaxy Quest here?

Just because Hans Gruber is the thing I associate with him the most doesn't mean I don't love his other roles. He was great in both Galaxy Quest and Dogma.

GQ is great; Dogma has aged horribly and is mostly terrible, though Rickman is one of the few remaining bright spots.

But, come on...the dude IS Hans Gruber. Most actors would be so lucky to have such an iconic role.

Second best? Him chewing the entire [expletive] set in that terrible Kevin Costner Robin Hood flick.

On the flipside, here's him and Emma Thompson in Judas Kiss, doing brutally bad New Orleans accents:

Don't pander to the masses. He's forever Hans Gruber to normal people.

There was some video game, and I can't remember which now, that used to have NPC's that would say "Talk to me!" when you'd talk to them, and my brain would always finish the sentence...."where are my detonators!!!?"

That makes my ears bleed. Why does every New Orleans based movie insist on having their characters sound like they're sipping mint julips on the porch of their plantations? Half of locals actually sound more like New Yorkers than Southerners.

Because American movie goers can only handle like 5 accents, so they get applied to everything whether they are appropriate or not

This is nonsense. It comes down to recognition; why waste time trying to get a specific regional accent perfect when 95% of the people in the audience have never heard it before in their life? It's an easier and quicker narrative device to simply give the character a recognizable accent or inflection or cadence that instantly has much of the audience understanding something about the character.

I agree to a point, but why then does every Southerner have to sound like the Dukes of Hazard or antebellum South? Or Texans like Sam Elliott or Buford T Justice? It's lazy. I'm sure Chicagoans get sick of everyone supposedly sounding like "Da Bears".

It's not nonsense. Why do you think every movie set in Europe has generic British accents regardless of what country they're in?
