Stand up Comedy

Postby mike2482 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 8:25 am

I have had a really slow day at work so I have been reading some Mitch Hedberg Jokes, and Laughing out loud, waking my co-workers up (yeah, its been that slow). So I wanted to post some of my favs and some that I hate, and maybe get an idea of some I can watch on Netflix.

Favorites off the top of my head
Mitch Hedberg
Zack Galifinakis (sp?)
Daniel Tosh
Chapelle
Mitch Fatel
Louis CK
Josh Blue (I think that is his name)
Jim Gaffigan

Hate
Dane Cook
Frank Caliendo
Carlos Mencia
Anybody associated with The Blue Collar Comedy Tour
Jeff Duhnam

I was just curious to see some other peoples opinions.

I saw Ricky Gervais recently and he was freaking hysterical.

He came from the 80's, man. Never has mankind known an era where the pinnacle of music, film and comedy was reached as it was then.

I agree with most of you guys on your "best" lists, except for, and I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, Jim Gaffigan. I just don't find the guy funny for the most part. When he does the annoying high pitched "whispery" voice it drives me insane.

Louis CK and Dave Chappelle are as good as it gets for hour-long sets.

rocket's got a pretty solid list going. I'd add Ricky Gervais. And since we're including dead guys, I'll add Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby, who I thought was hilarious when I was watching his stand up specials on HBO when I was much too young.

I'd also say that Carlin was great in his old stuff...but the stuff in the years before he died wasn't great, unforunately. He's still one of my all time favs though.

I agree 100% with the OP's hate list. My favorites, again not in order:

Patton Oswalt
Greg Giraldo
Gilbert Gottfried (I know, I know)
Harlan Williams (saw him at Summerfest once and about peed myself from laughter)
Dave Chappelle
Jeff Ross

And yes, of course, the Diceman.
Just an average guy with exceptional hair. No more, no less.

Bill Cosby is dead?

I had to check Wiki to make sure I hadn't missed that one.

haha. no, it was a stream of consciousness post. I added Pryor and he reminded me of Cosby, so I just added him too. Both guys I watched on tv when I was way too young.

No, he's not. He was on the Tonight Show pretty recently doing a bit on there...saw the clip on the web.

Some good Louis CK stuff here, starting with a bit that Dane Cook shamelessly ripped off. There's obviously some NSFW language here...

Pryor reminds you of Bill Cosby? Dr Dre always reminds me of George Washington Carver.

did you read my last sentence? they both were on HBO when I was like 7-8 years old. My sister and I would watch them when we got home from school before either of my parents got home. We were such badass little Iowa kids.

Oh, and yes, b/c I only see the world in terms of race.

That's probably my favorite clip of him. I show it to everybody who hasn't seen him yet, and they always love it.

Also, Eddie Izzard should be getting some more love. Derwood's the only one that's mentioned him.
