I think ultimately he won't be able to be a first division 1B with his lack of power. I do think he's going to be our favorite bat off the bench though (e.g. La Stella back in the day).

Re: 2022 Tentative Schedule Announced

Obviously the offseason will change this a lot, but that looks like a very balanced schedule. Late April into early May is gonna be kind of rough, as is the first half of July, but even those have plenty of home games and some Pirates and Orioles mixed in. Very different from this year where May was...

Re: Minor League Musings

This is a really good update primarily on guys who have been in the org for more than a month https://twitter.com/cubprospects/status/1422616998412959749?s=19 Didn't realize what Maldonado was doing. He actually now projects as a league average bat according to Fangraphs. That doesn't really play at...

Re: So...Now What?

Yeah, Hoerner's obviously valuable. I mean the genesis of this convo is how similar he and Madrigal are, literally four days ago Nick brought back a Hall of Fame closer in the midst of maybe his best season. I don't like the idea of trading Hoerner though. I'm among the most optimistic about next se...

Caissie had a 1.210 OPS before a single and a dong (so far) tonight. Not sure why he's not at Myrtle Beach.

Re: So...Now What?

https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/1422318211198898176 It's by design but still crazy to see how much salary they shed "On the active roster" is doing some pretty heavy lifting. The Cubs sent Rizzo and Baez's full salaries with them, and did a big chunk for Joc. They also offered with...

Re: 2021 Bears season

I'm finally reading this year's Football Outsiders Almanac, and there's some good nuggets in here: - FO only gives the Bears a 27% chance at the playoffs. They're the 21st ranked team overall, so bad but not terrible, but they're expected to have the toughest schedule in the NFL by A LOT - On the to...

Re: So...Now What?

I am going to be very interested to see what these three make in free agency. Is anyone going to throw $200 million at Baez or Bryant? Why do I see them both getting something like 5/130. The financial landscape has changed a lot in the past few years when the Cubs allegedly made these $200 million...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-1-21

When will Killian pitch? I saw Canario had a 2 hit day. There was a Tweet on Friday that had when everyone we traded for last pitched that I really wish I had saved. But most of the guys pitched mid week last week, so we'll see them all get starts likely in the next 2-3 days. I think the exception ...

Re: So...Now What?

I look to the Blue Jays and the Padres last winter for what I think makes the most sense for the Cubs' offseason. More the former than the latter. The Blue Jays had basically a blank slate for payroll, and used that to fortify their team with one superstar and a bunch of 1-2 year deals for talented ...

Re: Minor League Discussion & Boxes, 8-1-21

Burl Carraway with only one walk in his last four outings, covering 5 innings. 8 strikeouts over those outings. It is not particularly impressive, but with his stuff we all knew that when his command got up to "adequate" he was gonna start moving fast. This might be a sign that's happening.

Re: Kimbrel traded to the White Sox

https://twitter.com/fangraphs/status/1421241796861079555?s=19 If you're down on the trade I really recommend this piece from Dan Szymborski. Madrigal projects to ~13 WAR the next 5 years, at or above 2.5 per year, and at or above a .297 average each year. Similarly, Heuer projects to a 3.50 - 3.80 E...

Re: Passan - Bryant to the Giants

Right-hander Caleb Kilian was the Giants’ eighth-round pick in 2019 out of Texas Tech, and in 100 2/3 pro innings up through Double A, he has now walked all of 11 guys and struck out 113. He’s always had a good fastball, working at 93-95 as a starter this year, though his slider has become a possib...

Re: Kimbrel traded to the White Sox

I do like adding Madrigal's bat to the lineup, though I don't know if I love locking into a Hoerner/Madrigal middle infield w the SS free agent class as strong as it is, plus Nico might be the best defensive second baseman in baseball. Does Madrigal have the arm for 3B? There's no law saying the Cu...

Re: So...Now What?

So what is the projected payroll for 2022? Like 40-50MM? I suspect there's a lot of money to spend, even considering the PTR factor. Yeah, just to get to the relatively modest payroll of this year would leave a crap ton of money available. They'll definitely spend some, but I doubt they'll spend en...
