Re: The Politics Thread

I don't think it is? If the only jobs available are low wage jobs you can't live on, that's a societal problem. on an individual level, pay your employees a living wage or horsefeathers off. If you can't do it, do something else, you aren't helping anyone by offering a job that only moderately help...

Re: The Politics Thread

How much do you think a trucker who works consistently makes? Whats your plan once all these companies have to close? $70-90k, over the road would be my guess. Trucking is the worst imaginable job imo. No physical activity for hours/days and the physical activity you do get outside of the cab can b...

Re: The Politics Thread

Yeah; it's not that every boss or business owner is inherently a bastard, but most of them are complicit in a system designed to exploit workers/labor if their business can only exist if on the backs of people making not anything even remotely close to a living wage (or being able to provide benefi...

Re: The Politics Thread

Speaking as a business owner who is trying to provide equitable pay for his employees and still pay bills and have a little leftover for security/retirement/rainydays, it's really horsefeathering hard. However, I'm in a field where we have very little to no control over the price of our services. W...

Re: The Politics Thread

Trucking. Shippers post a load and a price, we call if we are interested. Theres room for negotiation if the price is too low, but usually they can go up like 1% and if not they’ll wait for the next caller...30 seconds after i say no and hang up. So just a lot of competition in your space? Low cost...

Re: The Politics Thread

This is bigger picture and I'm also a moron and also the pandemic, but in a free market sort of economy aren't there some businesses that just can't exist? If costs are greater than the market values the product then the business just can't exist. Right? it can if you form an industry group and thr...

Hey man, there were a bunch of Galaxy-class ships; not just the Enterprise . That's totally useless knowledge that is going to be stuck in my brain until I die. pretty sure i saw the excelsior in there https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/memoryalpha/images/5/59/USS_Hood.jpg/revision/latest?cb=2013051...

Re: Star Trek thread

How about some quick fan service cuts to things like Captain Ro Laren, or Captain Tuvok, or Captain Dax reporting in, so that it feels like anything but the same ship copy and pasted 100 times ? It's horsefeathering cool when ST uses all of their different ship models! https://youtu.be/P1OP0_rg2Ws ...

what is the relationship of this movie to the other suicide squad? same harley quinn, different... other stuff? Isn't it basically a "let's all just forget that first one happened" reboot? Nope, it's a sequel. I'm guessing any mentions to the first one will be pretty jokey in nature thoug...

Re: This Thread is About Comics

My three year old has recently become enamored of superheroes. Obviously a lot of what goes on in comics and movies is far too graphic and scary for her. So I've had to improvise a bit. She's had decent luck with these books. But I'd like to get her some actual honest-to-goodness comic books. She's...

Re: The Politics Thread

practicality or desirability are not my concerns. borders are but a construct. might as well construct something fun like a state that lets you say "rhombus" and not sound like a first grader learning shapes. besides, it looks like they just gave up on it because it was all the way over th...

Re: The Politics Thread

So, given the system we have, the sensible/fair (relatively speaking) option is to give this currently stateless and sizeable population a voice via representation. I'll only agree to statehood for DC if it includes annexing part of virginia so it's an actual rhombus or whatever, like this professi...

Like, when Tucker finally runs out of sponsors, what significantly worse, abhorrent monster will inevitably replace him and be even more popular? https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/552307347851210752/vrXDcTFC_400x400.jpeg Sadly, I WISH Fox would end up with someone like him replacing Tucker. Re: Should we talk about the weather? (Hi-hi-hi!)

Oh dear. Never seen a 7. https://twitter.com/weatherchannel/status/1371808527774322693?s=21 i find these kinds of "reduced to a single number" weather metrics useless, but i'm too dumb to understand actual weather data, so i'd prefer a standard series of probabilities: 1) likelihood of to...

Re: Going Solar

it would never not sell a house here in Puget Sound. I live in a completely different market, clearly, but banks and real estate agents here have learned how to leverage the utility as a marking strong point. I asked my real estate friend here and sounds like it's still just not as actively seen en...
