Work poopers are the new work smokers.

I swear this tracks: back in the day, smokers were often the people who could often get away with extra break time because they "needed" to go have a smoke (yeah, I know that wasn't true at all jobs, but I had plenty where the smokers were able to go smoke and it didn't count against their actual breaks or meal times, usually because some or all of the bosses smoked, too). This role, however, has been replaced by the Work Pooper.

I'm on a corridor that shares its bathrooms with several offices (BLARGH), and there's more than a few dudes who are obviously going in for multiple dumps (2-3) each day. It's not even a matter of guessing; they proudly go in and out of the bathroom with reading materials (one guy always has a thick hardcover title that he brags is his "toilet read"). And all of these guys are taking these long dumps in addition to all of their break time! That's easily an extra half hour they're getting, [expletive].

Now, granted, I'm not asking to be able to spend more time in the bathroom at work, and I supposed these unhealthy monsters having to be perched on the throne multiple times a day might be punishment enough, but still, it reminds of ye olden days of when non-smokers were kind of punished for not smoking by not getting as much time off in the day. I'm being punished because I don't have the disgusting, nigh-uncontrollable bowels of a farm animal! Let me go home early (or take a longer lunch) since I'm not a Work Pooper!

Just read this post on the work pooper.

Multi-billion dollar making employer says health care costs will go down next year (I'm currently paying a horsefeathering $1600 deductible for myself).

Also announces that 401k employer contributions are going down from 6% to horsefeathering 4%.

Hopes that this at least means that health care costs will be significantly going down are dashed when I enroll today and find my deductible has been dropped by a whopping...$100 dollars.

Eat all of the horsefeathers, capitalism.

Meanwhile, my employer completely cut PPO plans and forced EVERYONE onto high-deductible savings plans (with very little notice)

Yeah, that's been the deal my whole time here (going on five years now); they're all horsefeathering high deductible plans, with the lowest one being a grand for one person, but you can't get an HSA with that and, of course, more restrictions.

Wretched.

Measuring your cost change solely based on the deductible change is pretty narrow. What happened to premiums? Rx costs?

If you have multiple choices ranging from a 1k deductible to HSA plans, I'd say you have pretty good choice relatively speaking (although the amount your emoyer pays plays a pretty big role). My wife had as low as 500 at one point, but that was a union negotiated plan. I'd say any deductible from 500-1, 000 seems standard.

Right now I work for a small company and get 1 choice. I'd like a choice, and if one of those was a HDP HSA plan I'd be thrilled, personally. Although if a company only offers HDP that sucks too because they definitely aren't for everyone.

Although to be fair, I'd also love for our dependence on employer sponsored health care to die too.

$1,000 is the lowest, and it's a horsefeathers plan. Everything else is a HDP. And literally the only thing that changed with my plan is the deductible.

I'm more mad about the 401k employer contribution dropping to 4%, and that that was sold to us as to somehow leading to other benefit improvements. As far as I can tell the reduction was more significant to the family deductibles ($200-$300), but outside of that nothing else.

Yea, well agree that's a horsefeathers trade off for 2% on your 401k match.

So I'm at work when the receptionist, who happens to be my boss's sister, comes into my office and says she has to speak with me. She walks me back to the restroom and asks me to read a sign on the wall where one of the rules is putting the toilet seat down. She then gives me a brief lecture all the while smiling before walking off. Am I wrong in thinking this was ridiculously over the top passive aggressive? She couldn't just casually step into my office and ask me to put the seat down? Instead she had to March me back there and rub my nose in it like a puppy who peed in the house? Now everytime I use the bathroom that pops into my head and I hate myself for putting the seat down.

An employee accused me of changing her schedule so I wouldn’t have to work with her. Now granted I really don’t like working with her, and I think she knows it. She’s lazy and she’s always on her phone. But I didn’t make the schedule for the week she’s talking about (myself and a team of supervisors rotate in filling out the schedule each week). But she was so sure it was me that she yelled at me in front of several co-workers.

I calmly talked her down and showed her the edit history so she could see I hadn’t made her any changes, and I think she’s okay now. But the whole situation was just funny to me. It was like, “Did you change the schedule so we won’t work the same shifts? Before you answer I’m gonna show you why we shouldn’t work the same shift!”

If you're the only guy in the office you should really put some effort into putting the seat down. At the bare minimum you know that they know it was you who did it.

I, too, am a work jerk.

Boss's email: So, it looks like the toilet flush mechanism in the women’s bathroom is sticking/broken. I will contact Tony to get someone out to replace it. Until then, I recommend the old ‘giggle the handle’ trick.

My responce: I straight up refuse to giggle on a toilet handle.

Her responce: Why are you going into the women's bathroom at all?

My responce: To laugh a lot, it seems.

We cleared it up in person.

This was touched upon in the Covid thread, but maybe more appropriate here.

First, a note that I am happy to still have my job and not be furloughed. I'd be terrified if my vacation pay and unemployment insurance was about to expire. That said...

I work for an international hospitality company that runs restaurants in sports stadiums, airports, national parks and casinos and I took a pay cut at the beginning of this nightmare. Out of over 300 workers at this site, I am one of only 10 left running the day to day at now 3 units compared to the 14 we were running. In March, our daily revenue went from $100K/day to about $3K overnight, and those of us who remained have been doing everything from ordering, receiving, accounting, mopping floors, barbacking, cooking, reports for home office...you name it. These days we are doing about $15K/day and running our asses off daily just to keep the doors open. horsefeathers, I'm doing all my usual chef things plus all the other things I mentioned, and now loading and unloading literally tons of freight every week, and it is really taking a toll on me physically. I'm tired, I see in everyone else's faces that they're checked out, yet home office is dragging their feet to allow us to bring in more help. We're working our asses off for less money, with zero benchmarks communicated on when we can expect our payrates to return to normal, and I have no doubt that this is simply some upper mangagement putting feathers in their caps for home office to show how lean we can operate at 9% labor (we typically run 30% labor). They think they can squeeze us because we have no alternative, but it just sucks.

I was talking to one of our food delivery reps the other day and his company is doing much the same to them. Rant over, but this just absolutely sucks. What's happening right now is not sustainable for any of us here.
