Ok. I know umps are terrible and they do miss calls down the pipe every once in a while over the whole 162 games season, but is it me or it's on a new whole level this year?

there should be someone in the stadium that is watching the strike zone and can immediately overturn completely egregious calls like these.

as a step between the crap now and full electronic zone

I think that the umps are more affected by the empty stadiums than the players are. Half of these umps get off on fan reactions

Rizzo, West said, had been yelling at umpires from his suite, saying things like “you’re brutal.” Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lack of fans in the stadium, everything can be heard down on the field.

“I wouldn’t take that from a player. I wouldn’t take that from a manager,” West said, via the Associated Press. “If it was Donald Trump, I’d eject him, too. But I’d still vote for him.”

Sounds like he was ejected for heckling.

I don’t go to espn, so thanks for the link. That was a great read. Joe West doesn’t bother me, and from the article, sounds like he’s pretty respected by most players and managers.

I can only hope when he dies that Dawson's funeral home hosts it.

the tweet embedded in that article says "Country Joe" can be combative. But he's a good umpire." which is just objectively wrong, since he's consistently rated as below average (if not among the worst) on balls and strikes. he's a horsefeathers umpire who's been around forever because MLB has zero accountability for bad umpires.

I can't wait for the Robo-umps to come and take over behind the plate. Joe West and his ilk can politely horsefeathers off and lose that responsibility (and I still think they'll horsefeathers up MLB games on other bizarre rulings/calls, unfortunately).

Why can't he retire before the playoffs? While he's at it can he take Angel Hernandez with him?
