Anyone else find they inevitably end up day drinking when it's 60-65 degrees and sunny?

My fiancé is well aware that my Sunday afternoon bike rides inevitably end up at some dive bar in the Quarter with friends. One great thing that is lingering post lockdown is tables and chairs pulled onto the sidewalks.

And often when it's below or above those temps.

I moved to LA about a year and a half ago. Adding in COVID and how nice the weather is, it's really hard not to just be hammered at all times.

Any suggestions for coping with work burnout when taking a couple days off isn't an option due to a deadline in a few weeks? The last week or two has been increasingly rough.

Eat more plants, sleep better, and exercise more much preferably outside...Even one of the 3 could go a pretty long way

The last few posts offer an intriguing idea.

+1 to this, IIRC you might have some health issues that make this harder, but hard exercise is the number 1 thing that helps me out with good sleep a close second. Fresh air and otherwise having something that requires my attention outside of work(could be a good book, an interesting TV show, a home project, anything to not just be scrolling TV or internet mindlessly) is also good.

I personally like running midday during lunch. Breaks the day up, and is a nice stress reliever. I think working up a sweat is what will really provide the most benefit, but even a half hour walk outside would probably help.

Sadly I can't do anything like that anymore. After being in an awful drug induced hallucination filled medical emergency for weeks on end, I don't like not having full mental capabilities anymore.

Some assorted habits that help for me. Some won't work depending on the exact nature of your work:

- When you need to work on stuff, block time on your outlook so show as busy and people will think twice before bugging you with calls or IMs
- Try to turn as many meetings into emails as you can (ymmv on how aggressively you want to push this)
- Take a full lunch hour
- Turn off/slow down email notifications in your off hours
- If you need to work a long day, take a break and come back after dinner rather than push straight through. I find that if I'm working a 10 hour day, 9-530 + 730-9 is less draining than 9-7

I fell down a rabbit hole this evening. I don't know if you all treat your careers the way I do, but I constantly look for inspiration and that usually leads me to other architect's work. One such dude is a guy named Lebbeus Woods.

Woods graduated from the U of I and Purdue and is mostly known for his unbuilt work. Why is that important? I guess it isn't, but I'll leave you all with my favorite image he created:

Didn't he coined the term "freespace"? Dude was a visionary.

Tadao Ando is an architect that I always get inspiration from looking at his works.

I think he did coin "freespace" and I agree: Ando is transcendent.
