I really don't get this argument. The injury happened in a normal soccer play - the fact that is was potentially offside is irrelevant. The fact that you can disallow a bunch of goals that should count is far worse than the risk that a player gets hurt on a play that didn't count. Glad he's ok, but for me, two players going for a header is far scarier.

Yeah, the system is never going to be perfect and there will always be downsides to whichever way you go with it. I do agree with you on this one. Freak injuries happen. This could have happened on a play where the player was onside. If this was something that happened every couple weeks, then sure, you’d have an argument for it.

And it’s not like Sarah was a couple yards offside. It was close. He was definitely off but it wasn’t super obvious.

On the plus side, I had no idea about the extra concussion sub until today. Good on the EPL (or whoever decided to put this in) and hopefully they keep it permanently.

Orlando turning down 10 million (+20% sell on!) from a big 6 team for Dike and having it work out is one of the more delightfully hilarious developments of 2021.

Spurs should fire Jose before he even gets on the plane back to England and just leave him in Croatia.

That has to be pretty disappointing. Didn't the Zagreb coach just go to prison this week also? Maybe he was the problem.

Assuming they don’t go and win the next four league games to put themselves in UCL position, I hope City hammers them in the League Cup final. I read a few weeks ago part of the reason Jose was still there was because they were still in the Europa and had a final coming up.

Playing in the crappy third tier European competition next year (the reward for winning the Peague Cup) does nothing for me.

Never was a fan of this hire. The Dele Alli scenario was so predictable. Jose is toxic. Owners would be wise to stop trying to find magic fix retread managers and understand that getting the right players is what leads to wins.

Good draw for Chelsea in the UCL. They get Porto and then either Liverpool or Real if they win.

Meanwhile, Dortmund is the biggest loser. They get Man City and if they win, either Bayern or PSG.

I don't get all the Chelsea love. While they can compete with those three teams, I don't see them as favorites in any of those matchups - maybe a slight favorite versus Porto.

I don’t know, man. I’d gave a tough time betting against Tuchel with an in-form Kante. They’re ruthless.

Dest with a banger. He's looked good on the left side against Jamaica. Nutmegged a dude and played out the back through like four people earlier. Announcers are talking about how he's on the left for depth reasons but it seems more likely Berhalter wants him and Pulisic to be on the same side. His goal just came when Pulisic underlapped and drew two defenders away and gave him space. good horsefeathers.

I had no idea this friendly was going on until I get a Dest goal alert for USMNT.

Hopefully Pulisic is looking good despite not getting a whole lot of run for Chelsea lately.

his finishing is still a bit rusty but it's clear he's leaps and bounds better than anyone else out there.

A dynamic #10 draws defenders with a wide run, the back cuts inside and curls it into the corner.

That's a barcelona-ass goal right there.

It's good to see Pulisic on the field if for no other reason than to remind us how much cleaner he is on the ball than the rest of the pool. Just a cut apart when it comes to tight control. Less good from Reyna, who hasn't been all that good in a US shirt. Aaronson has been on for 10 minutes and is already a huge problem for Jamaica.

not to be argumentative, but I've watched a lot of Barca and don't recall ever once seeing a goal like that . . . they play left on left and right on right so not a likely scenario.

in any case, a nice goal!

I was more speaking to Messi pulling multiple defenders away from Dest’s dribbling into space identical to Pulisic‘s run in Dest’s goal than any particular, pedantic tactical point.

Anyway, Brendan Aaronson is slick, dudes. Really, really slick. He’s sped up his game and tilted the field every time he touched the ball.
